Movin' On Up...To the (West) Side

We moved into our new house a few weeks ago, and the move went relatively well. As much as I hate moving, it could have been much worse. In our six and a half years of marriage, Jay and I have now moved eight times! We hope to be done moving for a while. Even though we've moved a lot, I still learned a few things from the move:

1) A major hidden cost of moving: eating out.

With kitchen stuff in boxes, and little time or desire to cook, we ate out almost every meal for several days in a row. In one week, we ate at: Sonic, Del Taco, Subway, In-N-Out, Taco Bell, A&W, McDonald's, and (as our reward for a job well-done) Grimaldi's Pizza. I was definitely ready for a home-cooked meal by the end.

2) Always get the bigger moving truck.

I ordered the medium-sized truck, since we had most of our boxes already moved over and all that was really left was furniture. We still couldn't fit everything in the truck! Fortunately, the guys from our church that helped us move went above and beyond, and five of them had pickup trucks that they let us load up. Thanks guys!

3) My mom is the greatest (OK, I already knew this one)

She came to town for a few days, and we wouldn't have made it without her. She packed almost all our boxes, helped with some serious cleaning, and kept Hayden entertained and fed. Since I couldn't help as much as I wanted (see #4), she and Jay worked non-stop from early morning to late at night for several days in a row. Thanks!

4) You can't do as much pregnant as you wish (or want to pretend) you can. Once again, thanks Jay and Mom for picking up the slack.

I'm glad everything went well with the move! We're moving in about 2 weeks, so the advice is timely for me! When we moved to UT from NE I was 8 months pregnant and it was not fun, so I can sympathize with you. Although, it was probably WAY hotter for your move than mine! Congrats again on the new house!

We're so excited for you! I hate moving, maybe that's partly why we've stayed in this house for so long. I can't wait to come see it!!
